A Journey to Oz
Each year, the talents of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ’s K,1,2 students in Music, Drama, and Dance are showcased in the much-anticipated Mini Prep Proms. This year, the children delighted their families and the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ community with a vibrant performance of The Wizard of Oz, taking the audience on a journey to the Emerald City through singing, dancing, and acting.
The production involved every child, making it a colourful and joyful celebration of the arts. Year 2 students took on the central roles, memorising lines and participating in after-school rehearsals to refine their staging, voice projection, and character development. Kindergarten and Year 1 classes added their own flair as Munchkins, Yellow Brick Road dancers, and more, embodying their roles with confidence and enthusiasm.
Guided by Mrs Lisa Steiner, the children gained confidence in their dance and drama skills, focusing on timing, spacing, expression, and vocal projection. Music lessons led by Ms Alina Belshaw and Ms Jacinda Vincent introduced a variety of songs, while the String Ensemble, directed by Ms Alex Wentzel and Ms Kimberly Broadbridge, opened the performance with a beautiful rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and accompanied the finale.
The performance was not just a showcase of our talented students but also an opportunity for them to connect storytelling with real-life lessons. By engaging in play and make-believe, the children developed a deeper understanding of the themes and ideas in the story, enhancing their learning experience.
The joy radiating from the children throughout the Mini Prep Proms was a reminder of the value of the arts in education. Through Music, Drama, and Dance, young learners develop creativity, confidence, and a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
