Academic, Boarding, and Music Scholarships

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ offers a variety of Academic, Boarding, and Music scholarships each year, all of which are means-tested. Scholarship recipients are expected to demonstrate academic progress aligned with their abilities and actively participate in the School’s academic and co-curricular programmes.

 

Academic Scholarships

Academic Scholarships are awarded annually to boys entering Year 7 who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and a capacity to contribute to the academic life of the School. Selection is based on the ACER CSTP Scholarship examination and an interview with the Deputy Head, Academic. Other factors beyond academic ability may also be considered.

Boarding Scholarships

Boarding Scholarships and bursaries are available for boys entering Year 7 or currently boarding in other years, including Years 11 and 12. All boys applying for scholarships in Year 7 will be required to register and sit the ACER examination. For more details, email boarding@shore.nsw.edu.au

Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are awarded based on an audition, interview, and academic performance. Applicants are not required to sit the ACER examination. Please note that not all applicants will be invited for an audition. Applications for Music Scholarships close on Friday 31 January 2025, and the auditions will be Wednesday 26 February.

Registration

Online registration for the ACER Scholarship Exam opens on 23 September 2024. No paper applications will be accepted. Supporting documentation, including application forms, portfolios, and financial information, must be submitted by 22 February 2025. The registration fee is $140 (including GST).

Examination Details

The ACER Scholarship Exam will be held on Saturday 22 February 2025 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ School in the War Memorial Hall, near the Blue Street entrance. Candidates must arrive by 8:45 am. They should bring two HB or B pencils, an eraser, a ruler, and two blue or black pens. Snacks for breaks are recommended. No school uniform is required. Parking is not available on School grounds, but metered parking is available nearby.

There are no provisions for walk-in candidates or late arrivals on the exam day.

The RAI Grant Music Scholarship

This Scholarship, provided by the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ Foundation, is awarded to a student who is highly proficient on an orchestral instrument. Scholarship applicants should have reached the following minimum levels: Strings – Grade 7, Woodwind and Brass – Grade 5. This Scholarship provides an opportunity for a boy entering Year 7 with outstanding musical ability to attend Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ and to provide leadership in music in his area of specialisation. Parents wishing to apply for the R A I Grant Music Scholarship should complete the application form below. There is a one-off, non-refundable Music Scholarship Registration Fee of $100.00, which is payable at the time of submission. This Scholarship includes 32 instrumental lessons and tuition fees. Named after RAI Grant, BEc (Syd), BEd (Melb), DipEd (UNE). Headmaster of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ 1984-2002.

The Merewether Music Scholarship

This Scholarship, covering 50% of academic tuition fees and 32 Instrumental lessons, will be awarded for entry to Year 7, giving preference to a boy with outstanding ability in playing French Horn or Percussion; however, other orchestral instrumentalists are invited to apply. Guideline for skill levels required: Orchestral Brass and Woodwind - Grade 5; Strings – Grade 6; Orchestral Percussion – skills on both tuned and untuned instruments required. Note-reading essential. Parents wishing to apply for the Merewether Scholarship should complete the application form below. There is a one-off, non-refundable Music Scholarship Registration Fee of $100.00, which is payable at the time of submission. This Scholarship has been provided by the generosity of Edward John Merewether, Old Boy of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ 1935 – 1941 and distinguished architect and arts patron.
